McHardy 3 Ring (POLO)
A Ring cheek piece introduces poll pressure as well creating leverage on the mouthpiece.
The 3 Ring is our most popular version.
A horse shaking its head when bit pressure is applied or its tongue trying to escape the bit are classic signs the horse has a sensitive tongue. With this in mind the McHardy was created, it has a medium port creating space for the tongue relieving pressure. The Buster Roller in the middle increases bar pressure and as a result lifting the horse's head and giving more control.

McHardy Loose Ring
The McHardy is a combination of a jointed Happy Tongue with the Buster Roller. An excellent bit when more control is required, allowing at the same space for the tongue. This is because it is ported, which allows space for the tongue and relieves pressure in this area.
This Bomber Bit promotes relaxation and the 40mm central roller gives the horse something to play with and also deters leaning.
This bit will be suitable for you if your horse has a large and/or sensitive tongue, tends to lean on the bit.
All our bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:
- oxidises easily
- encourages salivation
- helps bit acceptance
- is warm and sweet
Please note the blue will fade with use.

McHardy Big Ring Gag
The McHardy Big Ring Gag is a combination of a jointed Happy Tongue with the Buster Roller. An excellent bit when more control is required, allowing at the same space for the tongue.
The Big Ring Gag is stronger than the usual Loose Ring and Eggbutt as the ropes going through the rings create leverage which will exert more pressure through the mouthpiece whilst at the same time introducing more poll pressure. These are generally used for
Polo.
The big ring creates more leverage making it stronger than the small ring version.
All our bits are made from blue sweet iron, because it:
oxidises easily
encourages salivation
helps bit acceptance
is warm and sweet
Please note the blue will fade with use.
